VEILS OF LANGUAGE
15’ x 15’ x 15’
Sound Installation using cotton fabric and field recordings
Seven blue sheer veils hang to form a labyrinth of text suspended in a small room. Translucent layers of letters are visible, but no words form at any vantage point. Audio recordings of experimental sound sculptures interweave with site-specific field recordings of various landscapes, including a bamboo forest, coastal foghorns, inland ponds, and the spring melt of frozen ice fields, displacing the verbal as an identifier of place. This installation creates a meditative space for considering self-location within the construct of language.
